Greater Virginia Beach

September 15, 2012, Bridal Shower & Bachelorette Party: Virginia Beach What a treat to drive to the beach for a bridal shower and bachelorette party!  Although it was a bit bizarre following signs for the Outer Banks when I wasn’t heading for my family’s annual Nags Head pilgrimage!

Becca Bee Events teamed with Pretty It Up for a very special bridal shower in Sandbridge, Virginia.  [Pretty It Up is based in Richmond.  The ladies excel at decor, and they aren’t bad chefs either!]  Sandbridge is a sleepy suburb of Virginia Beach, located on the Virginia side of the Outer Banks.  I was surprised to learn that it is only 20 miles north of Nags Head, as the crow flies.  There isn’t much down in Sandbridge (if you’ve ever been to the Outer Banks, you understand!) but it is only a 25 minute drive to Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach’s “main drag.”

The bachelorette party was hosted at the Hilton on Atlantic Avenue.  This was my second visit to the Hilton, and once again the property did not disappoint.  The sales team added my bridal party to “the list” for Skybar, their new rooftop bar.  I felt super special being able to get on “the list!”  The crowd was eye-catching; Virginia Beach has really stepped up as a cosmopolitan destination!  Skybar features an indoor and outdoor pool, panoramic views of the ocean and Atlantic Avenue, two bars, sofas and beds for lounging and of course cocktails and dancing.  The venue is not for the faint of heart, however.  It is on the roof of the 20+ floor hotel, so if you’re afraid of heights, you need not apply!

My night concluded early after a quick stop at Catch 31, the Hilton’s more casual bar and dance space located on their lobby floor.  Catch 31 is a yummy seafood restaurant by day and a fun indoor/outdoor bar, complete with fire pits, by night.  It is open to the public–no list access required!  I recommend both venues for anyone visiting the area, and absolutely recommend a stay at the Hilton.  Ask for an oceanfront room!

The bride continued to party into the wee hours.  What a fun bunch!  I can’t wait for the wedding!
