Children’s Birthday Parties | Becca Bee Events

As a wedding planner, there is an “off-season” so you may be wondering what I’m up to during these winter months (though I do have a winter wedding from December to share, so stay tuned!).  Fortunately for me, between the months of November and January, both of my children have birthdays, which means I’m busy with parties!  The timing is so perfect, I couldn’t have planned it better myself!

My son turned three this year.  He is such an outdoor boy, but with a late November birthday, it can be rather chilly here in Virginia.  The solution?  A camping theme!  With invitations and paper goods from Heather and her team at Chickabug, it was so easy to conceptualize the whole thing.  We have a large backyard complete with a playset, teepee, fire pit and cedar swing so the setting was logical.  Add s’mores, hot dogs, a couple of warm pasta dishes, and a chocolate cake and it’s a party!  Thank you to Kerry Renee Photography for capturing the images of my birthday boy and his friends!

My daughter celebrated her fifth birthday this past weekend.  She’s old enough to select her own theme and she really gets into the process (in true “daughter-of-an-event-planner fashion!). This year she chose mermaids after looking at the invitation suites from Chickabug.  Since she was inviting boys and girls, Heather was kind enough to modify the mermaid suite to include a note about pirates.  I also opted to purchase the favor tags and menu cards from Chickabug.  The menu featured “pirate swords” (fruit kabobs), “shark’s teeth” (cheese cut into triangles), “AB & Jellyfish” sandwiches cut into the shape of stars and hearts, and of course goldfish and pirate’s booty alongside vanilla cupcakes and chocolate cake.  We rounded out the theme with a “walk the plank” on the screened-in back porch, a “buried treasure” sandbox in the garage, a paint-your-own wooden treasure chest craft that doubled as the favor, and even a mermaid photo booth that my talented husband drew to match the invitations!  The party was a big success, which surprised even me given that we had about ten five-year-olds all inside my house.  So an in-home, winter birthday party can be done!  Check out the pictures.
