Rain Plan! My Favorite Indoor Options for Your Wedding

Rain on your wedding day may sound like an awful fate, but here in and around Charlottesville you have many, many phenomenal indoor wedding ceremony options!  In my seven years as a wedding planner, I’ve had several couples plan to utilize their indoor options, rain or shine, because the indoor options were so stunning.  Here are my favorite venues when rain is in your wedding day forecast, listed in alphabetic order:

Castle Hill CiderThis cidery in Keswick is an enormous blank canvas. The reception space has concrete floors and vaulted ceilings.  Above the reception space is a cozy loft appointed with hardwoods with a large east-facing barn door and a large west-facing barn door.  Should you choose to have your ceremony in the loft, chairs will be forklifted up and they can be arranged facing either direction.  The barn do
ors can be opened during the ceremony, creating an “outdoors coming in” vibe.  The loft doesn’t need much to make it beautiful, but my favorite addition is a chandelier hung over the altar.

Early Mountain VineyardsThis vineyard in Madison is full of charm. The reception room, which can double as the ceremony site, has slate tile floors, wood beams, wooden chandeliers, and two massive fireplaces facing each other on opposite ends of the room.  The wood mantels on the fireplaces are focal points (remember to adorn them accordingly!) and clients usually select one fireplace as their altar.  If it is chilly enough, I love when the fires can be lit during the ceremony.  In the summer months, those lovely slate floors keep things cool.  You can’t go wrong!

King Family VineyardsFamily owned and operated, this vineyard in Crozet has a great flow. Guests enter the event space into an L-shaped hallway that wraps around the reception room.  The reception room, which also doubles as the ceremony site, is kept private by four large sliding barn doors.  Inside the banquet space, couples host their ceremony in front of a beautiful stone fireplace flanked by large doors and windows.  The hardwood floors, chandeliers and neutral paint make the room warm and comfortable on a rainy day!

I have coordinated several weddings at each of these venues, but this is by no means an exhaustive list of rain friendly wedding venues in Charlottesville.  Shout outs go to Big Spring Farm, Mount Ida Farm and Trump Winery!  Happy wedding planning, Friends!
