Outer Banks Weddings | The Sanderling

weddings_venuesWeddings at The Sanderling: Duck, NC

I’m took a little break from Virginia last week and traveled down to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for my family’s annual vacation… So I’m taking a little break from my Virginia blog series to share about my site visit at The Sanderling in Duck!  Duck is to the Outer Banks what Martha’s Vineyard is to Cape Cod.  And if you’re going to be in Duck, you need to be at The Sanderling…

Holy macarel, what a great venue!  Do not let the weathered outward appearance of The Sanderling fool you… All oceanfront property accumulates sand, sun, and salt, so the worn wood is inevitable.  Once you step inside, you’re enveloped in the staff’s southern hospitality and rendered relaxed by the rocking chairs on the charming balcony overhead.  You’ll find a lovely espresso bar contained within the lobby, and the entire interior design-scape is polished with to-die-for furniture and local florals.

Beyond the lobby is the outdoor beach bar, two fire pits, an adult-only pool with a hot tub, and a family-friendly pool.  Oh, plus the ocean!  For you brides, let me direct your attention to the incredible event lawn where you’ll be having your outdoor ceremony.  You can, of course, choose to be on the beach, but once you experience the double-decker pier that overlooks the beach (and provides totally unmatched, unobstructed, unparalleled oceanfront views), you won’t want to dirty your Manolos.  There is also an event house (that has a completely awesome suite above it!) as a possible ceremony and/or reception venue (75-80 capacity, seated).  And then… the piece de resistance…

Across the street from the lobby, on the Currituck Sound-side of the resort, is the large reception venue, the event pavilion (180 capacity, seated).  It’s like a tent, but better.  It’s a permanent structure, with sidewalls (like a tent), but with… AIR CONDITIONING!  Yay for you summer brides!  No more melty makeup!  It also features two gorgeous beadboard bars, a private gazebo and pier (entrance and exit by yacht anyone??), ceiling fans, and a caterer’s kitchen.

I hope I succeeded in whetting your whistle.  You need to see it to really get the full-effect, or at least visit The Sanderling’s website.  The Sanderling is perfect for you OBX lovers looking to strike a compromise between five-star and firepit, between toes in the sand and top-notch cuisine… You really can have it all!  (Did I mention they have beach houses for rent?? 95 rooms on property??  Yummy, yummy food?? And I’d love to do a destination wedding there!!)
