Jenna + Deb: Married!

Jenna and Debajit hired me to be their wedding planner for their entire wedding weekend, which began on Friday, October 27, 2017 with their Indian wedding ceremony at The Graduate Hotel Charlottesville.  By the end of their black tie wedding reception, which was held at Castle Hill Cider in Keswick on Saturday, October 28, I felt like an old friend.

If I could use one word to describe Jenna and Deb it would be: authentic.  I love my job all days, but even more so when my clients allow me to enter their worlds and get to know them.

If I had to pick a theme to describe Jenna and Deb’s wedding weekend it would be traditional.  Friday’s Hindu ceremony was held inside a very colorful canopy called a mandap.  The vows were pronounced in Sanskrit as well as English.  The seven steps of a traditional Hindu marriage were followed, including the exchange of the beautiful floral necklaces which were created by Hedge Fine Blooms.  The bride and groom both wore traditional Indian wedding apparel, including the bindi which adorned Jenna’s forehead.

Saturday’s Christian ceremony was a black tie event for nearly 200 guests.  The bride wore a white strapless gown and kept her hair and accessories simple, which I really loved because then you could see Jenna and her personality.  I wish I had a picture of Jenna winking to share with you, because that was one thing I loved watching her do on her wedding day: She’d coolly and casually wink at nearly everyone, but the way she did it made you feel like she only noticed you.  Jenna’s bridesmaids wore long black dresses that made them look like tall, elegant columns.  Deb wore a black tuxedo as did his groomsmen.

The reception featured long farm tables down the center of the room with the bride and groom seated at the head of the table in wooden cross-back chairs.  Guests were seated at rounds with their gray napkins waterfalled under the gold rimmed china and pewter linens provided by Harvest Moon Catering.  Jenna and Deb chose to display both menu cards and a preset salad.

The couple chose to have two cakes: A traditional white tiered wedding cake as well as the traditional groom’s cake, which was the football field at Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium.  (As a Hokie myself, I’m pleased to share that Hokies do get married in Charlottesville!)  Both cakes were created by Rachel Willis of Cakes by Rachel.

My favorite part of the cakes, aside from the way they tasted, was their appearance: The cake spotlight against the sparkling gray linen was stunning!  MS Events did a great job with the lighting throughout the reception.  Couples, please do not forget about lighting!  Just look at the images of the gorgeous chandeliers suspended above the tables and the glow created by the bistro lights.

As the night went on, guests enjoyed toasts by the Father of the Bride, Maid of Honor and Best Man.  They also danced to the sounds of the live band.  If you are a dancing crowd, please consider booking a live band!  Bands really do make a difference in the overall event experience.

The two things that set Jenna and Deb’s wedding apart from others were their lighting and their band.  And of course them being their authentic selves at their beautiful, traditional fall wine country wedding!
